Babysitting & Child Care Essentials Course

A practical babysitting and child care program designed for youth ages 11–15. This course equips participants with foundational caregiving and first aid knowledge to confidently supervise and care for younger children across different age groups. Students will also gain guidance on how to present themselves professionally and attract babysitting opportunities from parents and guardians.

Give your child the opportunity to develop practical life skills that last beyond the classroom. Through this training, participants will learn:

• Essential caregiving techniques for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children
• How to stay safe and responsibly care for themselves and siblings when at home alone
• Ways to create a secure environment and confidently handle situations such as phone calls and unexpected visitors
• How to respond appropriately during emergencies, including choking, cuts and bleeding, poisoning, and burns
• Strategies for managing everyday childcare challenges such as tantrums, crying, and difficult behaviour
• Fun games and age-appropriate activities to keep children engaged and entertained
• How to start and manage babysitting services, including building a simple resume, creating promotional materials, and asking important questions before accepting a babysitting role

Instructor
Certified Babysitting Facilitator or Certified First Aid Instructor / Instructor Trainer

Course Completion Requirements

• Full attendance (100%)
• Successful demonstration of practical skills
• Minimum score of 75% on the written assessment

Participants must be at least 11 years old
